    abstract = "In modern healthcare, patient engagement has become one of the strongest markers of performance because it shapes almost every dimension of care—from how satisfied patients feel, to the outcomes they achieve, the safety of the services they receive, and the level of trust they place in the institution. Studies worldwide show that patients who receive active care through open communication, decision-sharing, information exchange, and digital access tools achieve better medical outcomes, with fewer complications and higher-quality care. The UAE healthcare system needs these principles given its diverse, multicultural population and multiple languages, as well as rapid digital health advancements. A structured narrative literature review was conducted, incorporating international, regional, and local studies. The review identifies five key elements of effective patient engagement: strong communication, shared decision-making, health literacy, digital accessibility, and supportive governance. Using these pillars, the study proposes a flexible model that blends international best practices with Middle Eastern cultural values and UAE healthcare priorities. The aim is to improve patient experience, strengthen trust, and support national quality goals. Drawing on both the literature and practical insights, the report recommends more transparent communication, culturally respectful decision-making, better digital access, and stronger patient representation in hospital governance—helping UAE hospitals deliver more patient-centred and reliable care.",
