In this article, fundamental aspects of geology and soil science will be studied through the development of a practical workshop aimed at applying the knowledge acquired in the course. This exercise seeks to have students consult, analyze, and integrate information from various reliable sources, thereby strengthening their research skills and understanding of the geological and edaphological environment of the Colombian territory. The content of the work is structured into five sections. First, the main rock dating methods will be addressed, which are essential for establishing the relative and absolute age of geological formations. Second, a mind map of the Geoportal of the Colombian Geological Service (SGC) will be presented, summarizing the key information offered by this institutional platform. Subsequently, the characteristics and distribution of two important soil types in Colombia—Andisols and Inceptisols—will be described, detailing their physical and chemical properties, as well as the regions of the country where they are predominantly found. Finally, a conceptual scheme based on the CORINE Land Cover methodology adapted for Colombia will be developed, showing the relationships among different land cover types present in the national territory. This academic exercise aims to reinforce critical analysis, the use of cartographic tools, and an integral understanding of the physical environment, which is essential for training in disciplines such as geology, civil engineering, and territorial planning.

En el presente artículo-taller se va a trabajar el análisis y aplicación de conceptos relevantes de la geología, orientados a la identificación, clasificación y comprensión de procesos geológicos. Para ello, se requiere consultar diversas fuentes confiables, analizar la información obtenida y responder un conjunto de preguntas relacionadas con las facies metamórficas y sedimentarias, así como con el perfil de meteorización propuesto por Deere & Patton (1971). El presente artículo se basa en un taller de geología desarrollado mediante una metodología de investigación documental y análisis crítico de información. El estudiante realizó una revisión de fuentes académicas y científicas para consolidar conocimientos sobre distintos aspectos de la geología, aplicándolos en la resolución de un cuestionario estructurado. El ejercicio inició con la caracterización de las eras geológicas, detallando sus principales características y eventos más representativos. Posteriormente, se identificaron los minerales más explotados en Colombia y su distribución geográfica a través de un mapa. En tercer lugar, se estudiaron las geoformas influenciadas por agentes morfogenéticos, explicando su origen y evolución. Se analizó también, la hipótesis de la deriva continental, exponiendo sus fundamentos científicos y las evidencias que la sustentan. Para terminar, se identificaron los principales sistemas de fallas geológicas activas en Colombia, describiendo sus características generales y representándolos en un mapa. Este artículo analiza el impacto de los megaproyectos industriales en la Bahía de Ohuira, Topolobampo, Sinaloa, con énfasis en la posible conformación de un conglomerado petroquímico.
